Carmen is one of the most engaging speakers I have ever heard. Her skill and passion move her listeners to tears and laughter and leaves them motivated. —Gary Powell, Founder of The Caregiver Foundation of America
In 1994 my husband was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease and our lives changed forever. Back then there was little written about HD and there were few support groups specifically for families dealing with the myriad of issues surrounding this devastating condition. The Internet was still in its infancy but, thankfully, a few brave souls ventured on to the information superhighway as it was called then. Meeting others encouraged me to write a book that would be for and about people dealing with Huntington’s disease and others who cared.
In 1998 Faces of Huntington’s became a reality and thousands of readers around the world found hope, inspiration, and more. Now, thanks to technology Faces of Huntington’s is now available as an ebook at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com, the iBookstore, etc.
Sadly, we still don’t have a cure and every day people test gene positive, caregivers need support, and people still need to share their stories. I am pleased to announce that I am writing More Faces of Huntington’s and I need your help!
The success of the first book was in the wonderful stories people like you contributed. The format of the new book will be exactly the same so I am looking for standalone stories that show how people find encouragement, love, humor, faith, forgiveness and hope within their families and communities as they deal with HD. Like the first book, More Faces of Huntington’s will touch on testing, survivor’s guilt, suicide, pregnancy and HD, and other issues.
I am also looking for people to profile for an entire chapter. I am looking specifically for chapter profiles from those who are symptomatic, at-risk persons, gene-negative, caregivers, parents of juvenile HD children, and individuals in the medical professions with an HD connection,
As with the first book I will be doing the writing once I have found the perfect stories and subjects. The only difference in the format is that there will be no poetry in More Faces of Huntington’s.
If you are interested in sharing your story or you know someone who might be a interested please email me at Carmen@carmenleal.com. There will be no payment for your participation but each person will receive a copy of the ebook as a gift for sharing your experiences.
I look forward to hearing from you and working together to create a book for those with Huntington’s and others who care.
